Residence	Address: When Simon and Sarah Duke Murphy migrated from Surry County, Virginia in the early 1770's, they settled on the south side of Tyger River in what is now Union County, South Carolina. They soon established a new home on what is now Barnett Creek Road, a short distance from Highway 49. A log cabin was soon constructed and the Simon Murphys, Jr. began to take their place in the new community which was later called Cross Keys. It was not long before it became necessary for Simon Murphy, Jr. to make a business trip back to his old home in Virginia. Somewhere along the journey he met up with Tories or Indians and was killed.
