Jacksonville Illinois Dec. 27 - 1907
I John R. Davis of Jacksonville, Illi. of the County of Morgan, do declare this to be my last will and Testament.
1st, I want all of my just debts paid.
2nd, That my executor erect in Diamond Grove Cemetery a family monument.
3d, To my wife Esther Davis I give all of my personal goods. To her I give all life insurance and money due me from Lodges (?). To her I also give Twenty five Thousand dollars ($25,000.00). It is also my desire that my wife be the guardian of my two Daughters Lillian and Wsther and that she have the income of money left them to be used for their care and education until they are twenty one (21 years) years of age. This to be paid in cash or realestate as she may elect.
4th, I give to Lillian Davis, my Daughter Ten Thousand Dollars ($10,000.00).
5th, To my Daughter Esther Davis I give Ten Thousand Dollars ($10,000.00).
6th, I give to A. R. Davis five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00).
7th, I give to Geo. P. Davis five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00).
8th, I give to Mary Davis Kenny five thousand dollars ($5,000.00).
9th, I give to Sarah Kershaw five hundred Dollars ($500.00).
10th, I want one hundred dollars spent for markers for sister Sarah and Aunt Lizzie ($100.00).
11th, In asmuch as most of my possessions are in real estate, I want my executor to have to [sic] the right to pay this bequests in real estate or money as she may elect. All real estate to be appraised at a fair value to be agread [sic] upon by the parties consered (?) if possible. If not possible to agree, to have three judges of real estate appraise the same.
12th, I want my wife Esther W. Davis to be executor of my estate with out bond. It is my desire that Geo P. Davis so living as he is satisfactory to my wife Ester Davis, That he look after the afairs [sic] of my estate for her, and that he be paid a reasonable amount for said work, said amount to be determined by my executor.
In witness whereof I have subscribed my name and set my seal to this my last will and testament this 28th day Dec AD 1907.
